(written by Briege O’Hare OSC and sung by Marie Cox RSM)

Come, come to me all you whose hearts are weary.

Private Prayer (instrumental Music)

5.15pm:                   Hymn:          Gentle Woman   (Carey Landry)

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you,
Blessed are you among women
and blest is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death, Amen,

(Chorus)
Gentle Woman, Quiet Light,
Morning Star, so strong and bright.
Gentle Mother, Peaceful Dove,
teach us wisdom, teach us love.

You were chosen by the Father,
You were chosen for the Son,
You were chosen from all Women
and for Woman, a shining one.   (Chorus)

Blessed are you among women
Bless in turn all women too.
Blessed they with peaceful spirits,
Blessed they with gentle hearts. (Chorus)

5.20pm                  Recitation of the Rosary

(A candle will be lit for the intention of each mystery)

1st Mystery                       The Resurrection
We offer this mystery of the Rosary for those whose lives are blighted through gambling, alcohol and drug addiction.

2nd Mystery                     The Ascension
We offer this mystery of the Rosary for all who are suffering from cancer.

3rd Mystery                      The Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles
We offer this mystery for all those suffering from dementia and we remember family relations strained through the stress of caring for a dementia sufferer.

4th Mystery                      The Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven
We offer this mystery for all who suffer from paranoia, personality difficulties, schizophrenia, depression and other mental illness - and for their loved ones who are suffering from anxiety or mental health issues.

5th Mystery                      The Coronation of Our Lady as Queen of Heaven and Earth
We offer this mystery for all who suffer from heart related problems, medical problems or from a broken heart.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

Pray for us O Holy Mother of God
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: O God, Whose only-begotten Son, by His life, death and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant, we beseech You, that meditating upon these Mysteries of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we may imitate what they contain, and obtain what they promise, through the same Christ, our Lord. Amen.

  Hymn:Pour out Compassion and Mercy

composed by Sr. Briege O’Hare OSC and sung by Sr. Marie Cox.

Pour out compassion and mercy
from the depths of your heart
and give to the poor and the broken
the service of your love.

In so far as you do these holy deeds
with all the love of your soul
then you will resemble me, your God
and I will make you whole.

If you seek out and find the stranger
Comfort the lowly of the heart
and offer them your friendship
then my justice you impart.
In so far as you do……

So pour out compassion and mercy
from the depths of your heart
and give to the poor and the broken
the service of your love.
In so far as you do….

What is a Circle of Mercy?
The Circle of Mercy is a Roman Catholic association of men and women from different walks of life, maintaining their own homes families and lifestyles, who are attracted to the vision, values and mission of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy. They desire to live the Gospel in the spirit of Catherine McAuley, the Foundress of the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy and value the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

Picture7 b

The Circle of Mercy is a relatively new addition to the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy where lay people and vowed sisters meet regularly and commit to Prayer, Mutual Support and Compassionate Living. The Circle of Mercy operates in the Northern and Southern Provinces of the Congregation. Members must undertake a year of preparation (before becoming a member) whereby they learn about the various aspects of the life of Catherine McAuley.

Who was Catherine McAuley?

Catherine Elizabeth McAuley was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1778. From the time she was a young child, Catherine saw her father living his Catholic faith through service to the poor. Her father died in 1783 when Catherine was only 5 but his service to the poor had lasting effect on her. After her mother’s death in 1798, Catherine and her siblings were sent to live with Protestant relatives. Catherine remained true to the Catholic faith.

At the age of 25, she was invited to be a live-in companion to a wealthy retired Quaker couple - the Callaghans. Her faith and loving care for them and the needy people in the neighbourhood was a powerful example for them, and they both became Catholic before they died. They left their fortune to Catherine.

This inheritance gave Catherine the money she needed to establish a house to serve people in need. Catherine purchased property and a large house was built on the corner of Baggot St. and Herbert St. in Dublin. The house was ready for use on September 24, 1827. As this date was also the feast of Our Lady of Mercy it seemed the obvious thing to place all her work under the patronage of the Mother of Mercy. It included a church, school, a work area for training the residents for jobs, and dormitories for the poor and any women who wished to join Catherine in her ministry., Catherine did not wish to form a religious order. Nuns in Ireland in those days spent most of their time cloistered away from the people Catherine was determined to serve and knew that to be a real help to the poor and needy, she needed to be among them to see the realities of the struggles they faced on a daily basis.

The Archbishop of Dublin convinced Catherine that becoming a religious order would help her to serve more people. Catherine agreed, and at the age of 52, she and two friends began training to become nuns. When they took their vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, they were allowed to include a vow of service to the poor, sick, and uneducated. The order, the Religious Sisters of Mercy, was born in 1831. The nuns wore plain clothing and were known in Ireland as the “walking nuns” because they spent so much time in the community helping people.

Ten years after becoming a nun, Catherine died in 1841.Unlike the previous deceased Sisters who were buried in the crypt of the local church in Clarendon Street, Catherine asked to be buried in the ground, like the poor. Her sacred remains are interred in the garden of the House of Mercy, (now Mercy International Centre) on Baggot Street, Dublin. Pope John Paul II declared Sister Catherine McAuley “Venerable” in 1990. This is the first step on the path to sainthood.
