Dolores in Africa
In November of this year, the T.L.C. held a Christmas Sale in the Den, the proceeds of which went to help Sr. Bernadette and the displaced children of the Plastic View Settlement.
A total of £3,230.00
To ensure the money reached Sr. B. in time for Christmas, Dolores McMullan, a member of the T.L.C. Group, and her husband Jim offered to deliver the proceeds while on holiday in South Africa.
Dolores and Jim met Sr. Bernadette in Johannesburg on Friday 27th November.
I asked them for a brief account of their experience.

"Dolores and I were looking forward to meeting Sr. Bernadette at the hotel. She arrived with two other sisters - Sr. Carmel originally from Enniskillen and Sr. Emmanuel from South Africa.

We were as excited as they were, to meet and update all the news from home".

We were interested to find out exactly what good works they were doing in the community After explaining to us about the dreadful poverty and the need for education, we couldn't help but admire these three nuns, totally dedicated to improving the lives of their fellow man.

The thing that amazed us most was the generosity of these women; giving up their lives for the benefit of others - particularly the children - with such dignity and happiness.
We believe one of the resons they are so successful at what they do is that,  the joy they give to others is only a reflection of the joy within themselves.

It was a pleasure to be in their company and they made a lasting impression on us.

These three nuns represented all that is good on earth - humanity, charity and the greatest of all - love.
Sr. Bernadette is SPECIAL - such a bubbly personality and a joy to be with.

We were proud to represent the T.L.C. Group and present them with the £3,230.00

They were so grateful and told us that we couldn't imagine the good this money would do.  Please God we will return some day and visit the settlement.

These hotel sculptures were made from sweets which will be donated to the townships when they are no longer needed.
