Last year the T.L.C. gave blankets, cardigans and teddies to the
Charlene's Project Charity in Uganda.
"To the ladies of Laurencetown Knitting Circle"
Just a wee note to say thanks ever so much for your gifts of children's clothes which we were able to give to some of the poorest in Wakissa District, Kampala, Uganda. Some of these families have absolutely nothing so it was wonderful to see the joy and gratitude of these people when they got gifts of cardigans, blankets and teddies, which the children called 'babies'.
We also were able to give clothing to pregnanct centres. These are centres who take in teenage girls, often as young as 12-14 years who have become pregnant sometimes as a result of rape. culture and prejudice forces these young girls from their homes and these centres take them from the street and look after them and their babies.
it was brilliant to have such clothing and gifts for these young girls who had n othing for their new babies. The teddies were a joy to the children and we always had more children than teddies so it was hard to see some not get one.
I enclose some photos of the girls and the children.
If you ever want I would be delighted to come along to your group, show more photos and says thanks in person.

Charlene's Project was founded by Charlene Barr, a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer who wanted to build a school in Uganda. Unfortunatley Charlene lost her battle in October 2010 but the Charity continues in her name.
